Day One

sarah.JPG

made a little trip to the city this afternoon to do a little shopping. and i mean a very little shopping. if there is an album i want on the first day, i'll go to the city just for that. and i wanted this cd. i'm listening to it at this minute. it is, of course, very good. the songs at the beginning are very... different. but about four in it get's a little more "Sarah" but then back a bit again. like i said very good. i think when Riener asked me to describe her music to someone and i said "she's like an amazing '30s jazz singer that listens to radiohead and church choirs all day" i was pretty much on key. VERY GOOD!!

bah bup bah bah

for any drummers out there, there is a link to Tim Alexander (drummer for Primus) to the right under Music. good stuff. just though i'd mention.

there should be a much more excited and interesting entry a bit later today.

... And Whatever Rhymes With Eloquent!

yesterday i put together a pretty decent Primus mix for Mark. i'm tempted to make copies for others in the ignorant masses. Mark and Kirk can both attest to the brilliance of Les, Ler, and Tim. i'm considering a second edition for Mark as well; there is so much more to share.

argggggggh!!

be a mite perfectionistic i often start artistic (or any) projects, get halfway through and decide it's doomed to not be good enough and throw it away. i have just done that with my second attempt at a 6 string bass body. the first one will be turned (thankfully) into a 4 string. this one is a mind bender. i hate the way it looks and feels and don't know what to do with it. maybe i'll throw a piece of crap neck on it and sell it to mark as a piccolo bass (oh yeah!) so i'm back at the beginning, i have lots of wood (though i'd like a different kind for the core) but i need a shape. i've got a couple ideas that are old four strings i'd come up with and might be able to mutate. fortunately i didn't have a neck on the old one (it's not even built yet.) it has to be a 6 string as i have a very good and not cheap pickup for a 6 string (well it's for a 5 string but i like things close and tight.) so thats where i'm at. i've got another bass or guitar planned, the body is designed (and it won't work with this thing.) now if i just had money to get going, i could start building full time.

since this doesn't matter to any of you, i'll just say that i'm gonna miss out on a cool concert in calgary cause i actually have to work. i am however looking for someone to go see Mellisa Auf Der Maur with. Oct 18.........

good to be back........

well i'm glad thats over. i worked last night which sucked, but i got to talk to Mel alot which was good. good friends make the time go faster. a crappy end to an otherwise good weekend.

big birthday bash for Jem was good, and i didn't ruin it. i was trying to save Marie's ass, which would've worked if Caroline hadn't been standing in front of the door. friday night was a write off (good nuff.) had to drive up to some camp north of spiritwood on saturday with Jem (which was beautiful, if you have time go up to Shell Lake or TooHots cabin for an afternoon. the colours are grand.) came back and watched Mystery Science Theatre 3000 "Michelle" with the Trew boys, T-rav, and Jem (again.) Sunday was nice, lunch was good and i spent the evening with Laurie who is now safely back at home in Calgary. good times!!

a word to the wise...

if you become sick with the flu, make sure you keep yourself hydrated. if you don't things get very uncomfortable and you will require the assistance of a doctor. trust me i have the intervenus hole to prove it.

The Twins

i put up a link in the culture jamming section. it's for a group from Brazil called Os Gemeos (the twins.) i saw some of their stuff in a Heckler magazine a few years back in an article about a skate trip to Brazil. it is beautiful stuff. even if you're not a fan of graffiti (for shame) but like art it's worth checking out. it's not your standard tag, but a work of art with the streets as the canvas.

ah hoi hoi

well tonight was interesting. practice in osler for some thing at a camp next weekend that has me travelling 2 hours for a 1 hour gig. i'm not sure about that.

then off to jordy and aimee's place for a "house warming" party. basically we acted like asses for an hour or two. then i had a very interesting and enjoyable converstaion with a yound lady from Colorado. Brittany (i believe thats right) is from a republican military family and is going to Briercrest this year. to say that we had slightly differing opinions on world politics and events is an understatement. but it was quite enjoyable. i found that talking to a real american with apposing views made me sift through my beliefs and find the ones that were factual and sensitive instead of simply opinion and critical distaste. especially seeing the look in her eyes when she talked about her brothers in the military that are over there. heartbreaking. these families don't deserve this. they shouldn't pay this cost for simply having faith in their country.

ps; loud mouth canadian right wingers have their heads up their collective asses, i learned more tonight about the real faces of the victims on this side of the ocean than anywhere else. and to say that it's an easy decision to put families through that because "it's the right thing" is insane.

pss; the thumb's getting better, the index finger is finging again.

hands down...

i'm my right hands worst enemy. if i'm gonna do damage to something it's going to be my right hand. monday, whilst filming the kickoff video for C&C, i rammed my hand into a door and sprang my index finger. it's just starting to feel better today. now today i was working in the shop. i got frustrated with somthing and though.. "oh screw it i'll just use a chisle on it"... and now i have a rather deep gash through the knuckle on my thumb. brilliant. good thing i'm left handed (in writing and suchlike.)

other than that the two basses i got going are getting there. i need jer to come back soon so i can work on necks. one i'm building with a fretless flat fingerboard and a violin style bridge. this'll mean i can move the bridge to make the scale (length of vibrating string) longer. i can just loosen the strings, move the bridge and go from a bass to a cello or piccolo bass. i love geeking out and getting cool ideas. the six strings just gonna stay a six string fretless, nothing special. now i'm thinking i've got enough wood for a guitar too, so by the time jer gets back out to the shop i may have three bodies waiting for necks..... geeeeek.

other stufffs

i forgot to mention i got Melissa Auf der Maur's new solo cd and the Cat Power you are free cd's from the library too (why bother buying music?) Melissa Auf der Maur was the bassist for Hole and then for then Smashing Pumpkins when D'Arcy quit. this album is very cool, and i like it better than most of the Hole and Pumpkins stuff i've heard (of course i tend to prefer female based music written by a bass player anyway.) the cat power cd is cool, very stripped down. one song has both Dave Grohl and Taylor Hawkins on drums. it's pure heaven.

on the tweak again

weekends are wierd. this weekend started on thursday and should end tomorrow. i'm not sure if it will, i mean i wonder if it didn't end yesterday. i enjoyed yesterday.... worked in the shop, went to Dori's for supper with a huge group of friends which entailed me spending 70% of my time with a group of mostly women (the guys were off watching sports or something.) friday was movie night at wades. we watched dancer in the dark, which is a film staring Bjork. very cool and the darkest musical i've every seen. thursday was a meeting at church, practice at church and a little gathering to say farewell to Timmy boi. nutters.

got another Cardigans cd from the library. i want to move to sweden just for the music. they've got some pretty sweet death metal too (and the whole Refused/T(i)NC/Lost Patrol gang).

new entry eh??

nothing much going on. working on compliling a cd for Laurie (what i'm lazy and wanted as much of a library as possible), i might make another couple for random gifts (ask and you shant recieve.) finished the prototype easel for the C&C upper half worship nights. three more to go. so far cost around 15 dollars and about 3 hours of Mark and Me goofing around. fun stuff. car got fixed yesterday so that'll make life less sketchy (need gas though). oh oh, the big big news........ i bought new shoes. for any of you who have seen my cute little black suede Jay Adams poolskating shoes, these are the same guys design only brown suede and old school high tops. these are the first non-black shoes i've had in probably ten years. very cool.
