Religious Right Champions the Penguin

Oh religious right... why are you so stupid?

Rich Lowry, editor of the right-wing publication the National Review, urged young conservatives to check out the documentary.

"It is an amazing movie. And I have to say, penguins are the really ideal example of monogamy," he said last month.

Except that penguins choose a new mate every single year! How is that an ideal example of monogamy? Did you even watch the movie Mr. Lowry?

Equally frustrating are people who point to gay penguins as proof that homosexuality is ok:

Gay groups argue that if homosexual behavior occurs in animals, it is natural, and therefore the rights of homosexuals should be protected.

Animals do a lot of freaky things. I don't think we should look to that as proof of anything. It can guide us, but just because my hamster, Snowball, ate her babies doesn't mean I should feel free to throw a kid on the BBQ if the grocery store is closed. That's dangerous ground to start walking on I think.
