library adventures

i love the library, its great that we share books within our community at large. today i went after i'd gone to future shop to look at music. future shop - 0, library - 8. one thing i did get was an audio copy of "War of the Worlds". i got it home and put it on. i'm thinking early 50's radio style recording. nope. 70's production including whacky keyboards and nasty synth sound effects. blech. oh well. so here's two questions for the masses:

1)what was the last thing you picked up at the library and why?

2)whats the last music you bought that nobody would expect you to own?

Comments

well, i borrowed a bunch of stuff from the library the other day and the last thing on my bill was
beastie boys-ill communication

last music?
frick, i haven't bought music in a little while and that means it's catch up time. well, i'm not sure you guys would have expected me to pick up that Prince-purple rain LP but the Raggadeath-One Life Single would have been even less likely.

the reason i picked it up was that i used to own it and i probably will throw it on a mini-disc.

the last thing i got from the library was a bunch of childrens books-including charlotte's web-since i couldn't find my own copy. It was for an assignment.
buy a cd-haven't done that in forever! i'm just a broke student.

1) 3 books on Aboriginal business and printed copies of microfiche...very interesting reading articles about Aboriginal issues here in the city, especially around election time
2) Last music I bought hm. Sad that it takes me a while to think about it. Uh, Barlow Girls - 3 girls and punk rock. ROCK OUT!

now is it really punk rock, or is it crappy mall punk. or even worse relient k style christian happy punk. i disapprove of the use of the word punk in those cases on the grounds of......... well do a little research into the style and attitude of original late 70's early 80's punk bands. alot of whats called punk nowaday's has nothing to do with punk rock and doesn't derserve that title. sorry for the rant, pet peeve.

Last thing that I borrowed from the Library was probably a book on careers, or a book on Fish Farming because it sounded like it would prove to be a good career. Theme here?

The last least likely for me to buy CD's was well not the dixie chicks Home album cause you guys all know I'm a hick now. It would probly have to be L.A. Symphony because Matt and Kirk were big on them ( especially ) Kirk about 5 to 6 months ago. Bad decision in buying that album. It has yet to be spun for a second time.

i don't think i've ever even listened to LA Symphony before. unless Kirk had it on and i didn't know what it was. you should've bought the new Hieroglyphics album instead.

give it to Craigga, drew. he loves that stuff. i guess you njust aren't ready for the symph. heiro's first album is arguably better than the second one. although the new one has a guest appearance by abstract rude. the new pigeon john album was better than the new la symph. don't buy anything from a Xian bookstore without listening, stuff is to expensiv3e at those stores. it seems what has characterized the word punk is poor guitar playing and whiny vocals. complaining about the girl in your physics class is not punk. by the way, 99 problems by Jay-Z is unfortunately good. i hate to admit this stuff.

Well I'm not the musical theorist when it comes to style. I just know I like the vocals, they rock out, the music I groove to, and the lyrics are awesome, and real. Not sappy love love stuff. Good music. So listen and label as you will...(grin)
