Ti-Cats are really bad
With good reason, I haven't done a CFL post in about 10 months. My team, the dreadful Ti-Cats are 3-12 so far this season, officially eliminating themselves from the playoffs again; their history of non-excellence is propelling them through another epic-fail season.
This brings their 7 year win-loss total to 32-90 meaning that they win just over a quarter of their games.
Let's take a look by the year:
| Year | Wins | Losses | Ties | Total Games | Winning Percentage |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2008 | 3 | 12 | 15 | 20% | |
| 2007 | 3 | 15 | 18 | 17% | |
| 2006 | 4 | 14 | 18 | 22% | |
| 2005 | 5 | 13 | 18 | 28% | |
| 2004 | 9 | 8 | 1 | 18 | 50% |
| 2003 | 1 | 17 | 18 | 6% | |
| 2002 | 7 | 11 | 18 | 39% | |
| Totals | 32 | 90 | 1 | 123 | 26% |
Ouch, I really wish they'd do a bit better. This is probably all strategy though, just making sure they get all the good draft picks; yeah, that's what they're doing.

TiCats get a new and more awesome GM
After firing their previous GM, the TiCats decided that they needed someone with a bit more experience this time around so today they turned to Bob Hoskins look-alike, Bob O'Billovich to turn the course of their wayward ship. I'm excited to see what effect high quality management will have on my under performing team - I hope for big things...

Riders win the Grey Cup!
OK, so this isn't news to anyone reading my blog, but I'm really glad that Sask got the win in the final - the whole province is just a little happier right now. My only sadness is that for Milt Stegall, I like him and wish he could have won a Grey Cup in his career, too bad.
Side fact: Next year, or sometime in the next 20 years, my TiCats are going to be contenders again, mark my words.

Saskatchewan only 1 win away!!
Although I missed watching the game, I was busy cheering for the Roughriders in my mind. And they won!! Yahoo - first trip to the Grey Cup in 10 years! Their opponent in the final is their arch-nemesis, Winnipeg (sans starting quarterback) so it should be a fitting way to end the year for both teams - what a great match that's going to be.
Oh, and thanks to Andy for cheering for Sask in person, I think it helped!

Sask advances!
The Roughriders have not only delivered on the first home playoff game in ~20 years but they've also won it by a squeaky 2 points! I didn't have the pleasure of watching the game as I was on an airplane at the time but I was really glad to read that when I landed. They're going to beat the Lions as long as the Lions home field isn't too noisy for them...

TiCats officially eliminated from playoffs
So, with the TiCats recent loss to the Alouettes here in MTL, they've officially eliminated themselves from playoff contention for the year; hopefully they can improve on their 2-12 record though because that really stinks.
My second favorite team, Saskatchewan Roughriders, are really in the hunt for a playoff spot and gunning for the top of their conference; the problem is that they're playing the not-playoff-bound-TiCats in 2 of their remaining 4 games and winning them would prove vital to their hosting a playoff game. I don't know if I have the ability to cheer for a team playing the TiCats - even if I know it's for the greater good of Sask's advancement - I'm in a real loyalty pickle...

TiCats get a new elite QB
So, another season is virtually a wash for the TiCats at 1-8 but they've made another big signing with the acquisition of Printers off his unsuccessful NFL attempt. For the TiCats, their record in the last 5 1/2 years (99 games) is 27-71-1 and they haven't gone over .500 at all in those years. Nowhere to go but up, right!!

Hamilton starts out 0-3
Well, it's no worse than other years so I guess I'm optimistic. Here's what cfl.ca had to say, "Hamilton (0-3) is now the CFL's lone winless squad." Ahh, music to my ears... This is the price I have to pay so that in 30 years when these guys win the Grey Cup, no one will be able to say I'm a bandwagon jumper...

Hamilton gets a new coach!
Hamilton is trying to pull together all of their talent with a better coach; so they signed Taaffe - I really don't know much about the guy but he comes pretty highly recommended, so I'm optimistic...

Edmonton re-signs Rob
Rob's back in Edmonton for another year - way to go!
Brown re-signed with the Eskimos for one year plus an option. He started all 18 games in his return to the Eskimos. He led the team in quarterback sacks with 12 and recorded 20 defensive tackles, four tackles for a loss, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. He was named CFL Lineman of the Week for his pair of tackles and three sacks versus Hamilton on September 16. He was the 2006 Eskimos nominee for Outstanding Defensive Player.

BC wins Grey Cup over Montreal
So, normally, I don't cheer for Montreal for reasons I won't get in to but today in the Grey Cup final vs. BC I was cheering for them (I wanted Tom to get another ring!) but I think that was their demise as they lost pretty convincingly to BC.
On a brighter note: Sask Huskies have made it to the Vanier Cup again - and it's being played in Saskatoon! That game is being played next weekend and I sure hope that they can win it!

Rob gets a feature article!
Every article on Rob talks about his faith and this one is no exception - super kudos to Rob (and Amber and Elijah!!)
"God is good," he said. "I know there's something greater and bigger than me."

In Honor of my favorite CFL'er
Rob Brown won defensive lineman of the week a few weeks ago, is third so far in the whole league in sacks with 12 (and leading his team in that category) and is a pretty cool new dad. Seems to me like he's pulling his weight but unfortunately the Eskimos couldn't find a way to make it to the playoffs this year - too bad for him.

Hamilton officially out
Well, they had a pretty bad game against BC and managed to lose pretty badly to bring their record to 4-12 thereby mathematically eliminitating themselves from the playoffs. Time to retool for next year baby! Now all the posts you see will be about Saskatchewan! I'm jumping that wagon - Go Riders!

Hamilton wins two straight!
My beloved TiCats have won two straight to bring their measly record to 4-11! The last two games that I was watching were both against the Eskimos (who are also likely going to miss the playoffs) and were very close - my heart was pounding at the end of the game yesterday at the thought they may win two games in a row - stellar!!

TiCats revamp during busy week
After being a general disappointment to me because of their 2-9 start right after their 5-13 season last year; the TiCats have decided to try to make me happy again. They've tried to do this by releasing their Offensive Coordinator and Offensive Line Coach, Joe Paopao and Kani Kauahi, then their General Manager, Rob Katz steps down, then they trade Belli to Montreal.
In return, they got Marcel Desjardins of Montreal as their new GM, in return for Belli they took defensive tackle Clinton Wayne and linebacker Phillip Gauthier recently, they re-aquired Kahlil Hill who was recently cut from his NFL team. To replace offensive line coach Kani Kauahi they plucked John Salavantis from his broadcasting job for the TiCats.
Whew! That is a lot of links to read how the TiCats are going to try to not suck so badly in their next game. Because there's nothing that says, "You're really bad" like being ouscored 100-10 in the last 3 games at home. Ouch.

Soft as hospital cotton
In the rematch of the blowout last week where Sask kicked Hamilton, it seems that Hamilton is going to again lose badly to Sask. At present, Hamilton is down about 48-8 in points and down 8-0 in turnovers. So painful to watch... As Benefield said, this team is, "as soft as hospital cotton"; so true.

Hamilton shut out again
With Jason Maas not starting as quarterback for the TiCats on Friday the backup, Eakin, did nothing letting Hamilton get throttled 29-0; at least we're a respectable 1-6. Sadly this isn't their first shutout in the last little while which really adds to the embarrasment. Oh well, at least Sask won...

Winnipeg beats Edmonton in amazing finish
I really don't care too much about either Winnipeg or Edmonton (with the exception of Rob Brown in Edmonton) but the game on Friday had possibly the greatest finish I have ever seen in a CFL football game.
With 15 seconds left in the game, Edmonton gets a 9 yard 2-point converted touchdown to lead the game by 3 points. So, Winnipeg needs 3 points on the last play of the game on their own 10 yard line (that's 100 yards to the other end) and Glenn spots Stegall, wide open in man to man coverage, who runs it all the way for a touchdown to win the game. It was stunning that Edmonton faked the blitz on the last play of the game and didn't just back up to mid field and let WPG have whatever they wanted. Tough way to lose for EDM but an incredibly dramatic win for WPG. Watching WPG's coach Berry leap and jump down the sidelines was awesome.

Hamilton Wins!!
My beloved Ti-Cats just won their first game of the year to go 1-4; this comes after the releasing of Marshall as their head coach, the reinstating of Lancaster at his old position, no more Boreham kicking (missing) field goals and Holmes back in the lineup. I was on the edge of my seat through most of the game, for Vaughn getting his catch to get the most career receptions passing Darren Flutie and the new kicker, Myers, hitting the last play field goal to win the game for Hamilton. I'll sleep well tonight :)

Renegades kaputz
The Ottawa Renegades have got themselves shut down and will not be playing in the 2006 season. Fittingly, the chief benefactors of this should be my Ti-Cats, they get first dibs on the dispersal, coming up on Wednesday. Are they going to take Kerry Joseph or leave themselves with only Maas...

Rob to Edmonton

Remember my friend, Rob, who's off to Africa on missions? Well, he also got traded from the Als to the Eskimos so he'll be moving to Edmonton for next year. Not so big of a loss seeing as how I don't plan on living in Montreal next year anyways :)

Oh no, not the Huskies too!
I just finished watching the thrilling Vanier Cup final between the Huskies and Laurier in which we managed to lose the game. Truthfully, we were kind of lucky to be hanging around in that game but the end was so close and it was a tough one to lose. BTW - what was up with the 2 point convert attempt in the 3rd quarter??!! Awful call
Also, on the Narnia front...
Douglas Gresham was brought up by C. S. Lewis and has now produced the film of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. He hopes that the movie won't impart even a subliminal Christian message to young audiences because, he says, the Narnia books were not intended as Christian novels.
This is what I like to hear! To be clear - I like it because it seems like they're trying to actually make a good movie instead of inserting a bunch of Christian propaganda in that no non-Christian will ever want to see...

I am so happy that I will finally be rid of future Hall of Famer Danny McManus from my TiCats. He's off to Edmonton with some other guys for Jason Maas. I am ripe with anticipation!

All my teams lose in CFL
On Sunday I had the really challenging task of taping the football game and trying hard over the course of the night to not find out who had won the game. I did manage to get home without knowing the outcome so the game was very entertaining. To Montreal's demise I was actually cheering for them in this one, which makes it seem as though the teams I cheer for don't do so well.
First was

Hamilton who is my favorite team and therefore didn't even make the playoffs
So, in the playoffs, I picked my next favorite team

Saskatchewan who promptly lost to MTL in the first round.
I didn't really care who won from there but in the finals I was cheering for MTL because I wanted Tom and Rob to get another victory, sadly, I was shut down again. Crazy Edmonton coming out of nowhere - now, for the Huskies in the Vanier Cup on Sunday - that'll be a good one!
Oh, and a mennoboy success story! The guy that we met from Sask at the football game from Quebec City (pictured in the nook of Sacha right arm - in green) is actually a friend of ours from Saskatoon's brother - top that one!

Huskies advance to Vanier Cup!!

Well, since the RoughRiders can't get it done I'm so glad to see that my old college team, the Huskies, are making their way to the final again! It was a great semi-final game against the Rouge et Or and Heidi and I were happy to let our MTL friends know that our team beat theirs this time.

Sask vs. MTL playoffs
Heidi and I were lucky enough to be able to attend the Sask vs. MTL playoff game this evening and were sorely disappointed to see Sask lose ugly. The three very bright spots of our otherwise dismal game were:
1) finding out that our friend, Sacha, was coincidentally sitting right behind us

2) getting a sympathy beer from the MTL fans when they were up 21-0 (mennonite dilemma!)
3) yelling at Rob Brown and actually getting his attention
Well, good times were had, maybe next year either my TiCats or the Roughriders will make it further...
Oh, and it was also pretty cool to meet a Sask fan about 6 rows back that also had gone to U of S and now teaches at a school in Quebec City! I love Saskatchewan!

Roughriders in playoffs - against Montreal!

The Roughriders have clinced a playoff spot with Ottawas loss yesterday. They're going to be playing against Montreal right here in Montreal and I am really wanting to get some of those tickets, just have to wait and see if Heidi can get her shift changed and then - we're in!!

Football on TV requires PVR!
Sask lost a game they really should have had against TOR this weekend. They were up most of the game and just let it slide in the late 4th; TOR got two quick touchdowns to win the game they shouldn't have even been in. Heidi was on the edge of her seat and screaming at the TV for the roughriders to win, sadly, she went unheard. Lesson learned for the silo boys.
Oh, regarding my team (the TiCats), they're still sucking (0-2) and really proving to be the team to not lose to again this year. Maybe in 10 to 15 years they'll have a decent team again; when McManus is finally given the boot.
Speaking of football, on the Friday double header, I was watching so much TSN that I almost went beserk watching those Wendy's ads over and over. I complained to Heidi so much that she said you have to do something about it. So she 'made' me buy a PVR from bell. So, now I'm content and a good snuggle mate during football season with no commercials. Sweet!
Heidi and I have just arrived at half of our married life in Montreal, strange isn't it?! We've lived here for half of the time that we've lived together - I guess when I think about it, it has been awhile since I lived in Toon town.
Lastly, I learned today that it's the 40th anniversary of my beloved Slurpee!! Today when it's 38C with humidex I could really go for one but sadly, those little guys never made it out to QC :(

ARGHHH!! TiCats change logo

Oh no - my beloved TiCats have decided to change their image and go with a new look! I totally miss my beloved leaping tiger (BTW - that's why I picked to cheer for the Ticats when I was 9). At least I got my old logo Ticat hat already - I'll be okay...
On second looking I see that the leaping Tiger is still there, so whew - but that other standing tiger just looks stupid - Richard Parker could tear him apart anyday

Halo 2 and other info
On last Thursday I got Halo 2 for my Xbox and have been playing it pretty feverishly for the last few days. Also been playing online with some friends which is a lot of fun cause you can't see their screens - I'm 'RoyalChinook' on Xbox Live if you want to add me.
A funny Halo related website is Red Vs. Blue - check it out.
Congrats to Jeremy & Kelly on their expected baby boy (Joshua) and to Jeremy's sister and her husband (Ryan & Julia) on their expectant girl. Tom's going to be a grandpa twice!
Yeah for the Toronto Argonauts on their Grey Cup win last night. I really didn't care too much who won but I was happy that Pinball and his gigantic smile had another Grey Cup
On my last post I put up some Mexico pictures - we were in the Cancun area in a town called Playa del Carmen. It was a great time with all of Heidi's family (minus the grandkids who stayed at their other grandparents) where many cerveca's were consumed. I'm still saying Hola! because I think it sounds so much cooler than Hello or Bonjour - I've slowly been getting my very limited Spanish out of my mind and back into English but the Hola will stay for awhile.
Adios!
