Disclaimer: I’m a Canadian who follows American politics fairly loosely (as in I watch the Daily Show/Colbert Report and read the occasional blog/tweet about it). I don’t usually blog about it too much because I don’t like talking about something I don’t totally understand. But, Barack Obama has excited me about politics and the possibility for change more than any politician has, my country or otherwise. Maybe I’ve been drinking the kool-aid/propaganda too much. The Democrats have run a campaign that seems fairly targeted to my demographic (tech and media savvy, slightly left leaning, compassion based, filled with talk of hope, change and the possibilities of what may come, etc) so it’s not surprising that I’d be feeling this way.
This is a 30 minute commercial/tv spot that the Obama campaign played last week on American TV to sway additional voters. According to CNN’s Electoral estimate Obama (Democrat) has 291 (210 safe, 81 leaning) to 157 (121 safe, 36 leaning) lead over McCain (Republican). For comparison, 2004′s election had Bush (Republican) winning over Kerry (Democrat), 286-252. In 2000, Bush beat Al Gore 271 – 266.
I will be glad when the election is over and we can hear about something else in our news/rss readers.
