Heard In Shock and Exclamation

Someone said this to me on the phone in response to how long something was going to take:

Lord love a duck!

Well, I hope He does. Probably many ducks. All of them in fact. But not pigeons. Pigeons are of the devil.

More Stupid Terror Attacks

This time in Egypt. At least 83 dead after 2 car bombs and a backpack bomb went off.

From Wikipedia:

Often there is a religious element involved, besides other motives such as politics or blackmail: many suicide bombers believe that they will attain an otherworldly reward for their sacrifice. Those who send suicide bombers on missions cultivate the belief that suicide bombers are martyrs, according to a controversial reading of Islamic teaching. Palestinian television has aired a number of music videos and announcements that promote eternal reward for children who seek "shahada", which Palestinian Media Watch has claimed is "Islamic motivation of suicide terrorists". The Chicago Tribune has documented the concern of Palestinian parents that their children are encouraged to take part in suicide operations.

It's hard to try and dissuade someone from doing something that their religon teaches they will be rewarded for.

Easter Eggs

Twenty points to whoever spots the easter egg on our store's web site that I put up this week.

If you work at the store and I've already shown you, obviously you don't count. You don't get points, you just get a smack upside the head.

Digital Music = Patches for Songs?

So if you buy all your music digitially (i.e. iTunes music store or something similar), how long before a band/singer put out 'patches' for their songs?

i.e. Britney Spears releases her new single online, then a couple weeks later realizes that there's a note (just one?) that she sang not quite right (she sings?) and so she re-releases it along with a upgrade to v1.2 of her song for everyone who purchased it already.

Just a thought I had for some reason today.

Old Japenese Cars Are New Again

... to Canadians anway.

Cars like this one and this one are available to purchase from a distributor in Canada. Due to Canada's import laws stating that the car must be at least 15 yrs old, we get 15 yr old imports like these. Since, as a general rule, the Japanese don't drive their cars nearly as much as we do they're more like 5-10 year old cars to us.

Now if only we'd waited instead of buying the Outback! :)

Optimus Keyboard

This would be an amazing technology, or will be when it actually arrives. Think of putting something like this in an internet cafe where you have people from all different languages using it - just select your language preference and it changes to suit you.

They're talking about it being available in 2006. Now you'll have to have a video card for the keyboard! :)

Too hot to post

It's been too nice out to post anything of interest on here. Lots of BBQing, biking, beach volleyball. Pretty much anything that starts with a 'B' works.

The wind this morning was brutal biking in to work - I felt like I was peddling in molasses. There are two things that suck in Saskatchewan in summer... wind and mosquitos. The wind helps get rid of mosquitos, but if we didn't have the mosquitos we wouldn't need the wind.

Someone is going to win a whole bunch of iPods and songs if they happen to be the 500 millionth iTunes music store customer.

Wedding Crashers

Fun, cheesy way to promote the new Vince Vaughn/Owen Wilson movie, Wedding Crashers. Crash the trailer. Little screw up in the credits as I punched in Carlos's name but couldn't find a suitable picture so I had to use Terry's. I guess Terry is Carlos's face double in the movies.

I got in touch with my farmer roots last night and broke out the ride-on mower to cut the lawn. I used to cut my grandparents lawn on their farm all the time when I was a kid so it was fun in a nostalgic kind of way.

The mosquitos are straight from the pit though. Nasty.

U2 Backstage Crew Blogs

U2's generator crew has started blogging. Follow them on their Euro leg of the tour. Hopefully 'the man' doesn't shut them down.

We finally played the Cities and Knights expansion pack for Settlers. I really like the additions to the game and I think we'll probably end up getting it sometime.

Brilliant marketing on these board game folks part with all the expansion packs and addons.
